Melissa Lady Cardinals softball starts out season 5-0

Melissa - The Melissa Lady Cardinals (5-0) got their 2021 softball season started on a 5-0 run. Most of those games were part of the annual Melissa Softball Tournament. 

The Lady Cardinals opened the season with a 13-0 win over Gunter that included a no-hitter by pitcher Bryton Wright who had 12 strikeouts. Wright also also added to the Melissa efforts with four rbi on a home run. 

Emily Johnson also pitched in with two doubles and two rbi for the Lady Cardinals.

During tournament play the Lady Cardinals got a 13-0 win over Trenton. Melissa took their second tourney win over Greenville 17-0. 

Farmersville scored the first run of the season against the Lady Cardinals, but Melissa walked away with the 7-1 win. They got their final win of the weekend over Community 6-0. Overall the Lady Cardinals put 43 runs on the board while only giving up one run. 

Melissa (5-0) played Denison (1-2) in non-district play on the road on Tuesday, March 2. They will be participating in tournament play on Thursday, March 4 and Friday, March 5. Their opponents on Thursday will be Honey Grove, Ponder and Rivercrest. Friday opponents include Bells and Denison.

The Lady Cardinals open District 9-4A play on Tuesday, March 9 at 11:30 on the road in Anna.
