Lady Cardinals fall to Midlothian Heritage in the regional quarterfinals

Melissa - The Melissa Lady Cardinals (21-8) headed into the UIL Class 4A Region II Regional Quarterfinals after taking down Dallas Lincoln 67-47 in their Area matchup. Seniors Wendy Clemmons and Katie Sparks led the Lady Cardinals with 17 and 15 points, respectively. 

The Lady Cardinals matched up against the TABC 12th ranked Midlothian Heritage Jaguars (23-5) and fought to the very end, but came up just short 50-46. 

Melissa had little problem with their Bi-District opponent Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy as they rolled to a 59-18 win in that contest which was the first round of the UIL Class 4A girls basketball playoffs. Seniors Jaydan Ballard 13 points and Wendy Clemmons 12 points led the Lady Cardinals scoring. Ballard also added 13 rebounds. 

The Lady Cardinals are geared up for their annual playoff run and are led by a core group of 11 girls including Seniors Wendy Clemmons, Jaydan Bullard, Mia Ellis, Katie Sparks and Ryanne Smith. Junior team members include Gracie Mouthart, Amerson Hoyt and Hannah Plate. Sophomore Kaitlyn Reeves, along with Freshmen Kate Difloria and Ebunoluwa Akapo round out the core group. 

Melissa finished second in a very tough District 9-4A during the 2020-21 season and made this three round run in the Class 4A playoffs. The Lady Cardinals are led by head coach Chris Oestrich. 

Boys Basketball Playoffs: 

Anna - After taking a 73-68 Class 4A bi-district win over Kennedale the Anna Coyotes (19-7) ran into the TABC 4th ranked Dallas Carter Cowboys (25-1). Anna dropped the area matchup 91-41. The Coyotes finished second in the very competitive District 9-4A regular season and made this two deep playoff run under head coach Kyle Phifer.
