Coyotes continue district race

Anna - The Anna Coyote boys basketball team is sitting at 7-3 in the District 9-4A race. The Coyotes won their only game of this past week 71-42 over Aubrey on Tuesday, January 26.  

The District 9-4A race finds Van Alstyne (94-1/1-8) in the top spot with Melissa (9-2/13-7) holding down second place. The remainder of the district includes: Anna (7-3/16-6), Celina (6-4/15-10), Aubrey (3-7/8-10), Gainesville (2-8/7-14) and Sanger 0-11/3-17). 

Results from last week's District 9-4A games included Tuesday, January 26: Anna 71 defeated Aubrey 42, Celina 63 defeated Sanger 33, Van Alstyne 66 defeated Melissa 44; Friday, January 29: Melissa 64 defeated Aubrey 43, Van Alstyne 70 defeated Celina 62 and Gainesville 59 defeated Sanger 43. 

This week’s District 9-4A schedule for the boys includes February 2: Aubrey at Celina and Van Alstyne at Gainesville; February 5: Celina at Anna, Sanger at Van Alstyne and Gainesville at Aubrey. 

UIL district certification is due February 16 when the top four teams will make the playoffs. At present Melissa, Van Alstyne, Anna and Celina are still mathematically in the mix. Bi-District playoffs begin the first week of the playoffs on February 18-20.

The Anna Lady Coyotes are currently sitting at 0-9 in district and 4-17 on the season according to MaxPreps. The Lady Coyotes have three district games remaining based on the 12 game schedule.  

Final order of finish at this point finds Sanger (11-1/18-5) is at the top of the standings in the District 9-4A race with Melissa (10-2/19-6) in the second spot. Several games remain to complete the 12 district games by each team on the schedule. The remainder of the district standings are as follows: Van Alstyne (8-4/14-8), Aubrey 6-5/8-9), Celina (4-8/9-15), Anna (0-9/4-17) and Gainesville (0-10/0-18). 

The results from last week’s District 9-4A matchups for the girls included Melissa 74 defeated Van Alstyne 43 and Sanger 54 defeated Celina 33. On Friday, January 29 Sanger 89 defeated Gainesville 15, Van Alstyne 37 defeated Celina 25 and Melissa picked up a forfeit win over Aubrey. 

This is the final week for District 9-4A games unless there are tie-breakers needed to determine the final top four teams that advance to the playoffs.  Final district certification by the UIL is due on February 9 and the first round of playoffs (Bi-District) begins on February 11-13.
