Coyote hoopsters head into District 9-4A competition
Anna - The 2020-2021 boys basketball season is just finishing up its first month of play and the Anna Coyotes find themselves at 7-3 headed into Friday night’s first District 9-4A matchup of the season with Gainesville. The Coyotes, under head coach Kyle Pheifer jumped off to a quick start for the season after coming out of the gate 1-2 back in November.
Pheifer’s Coyote squad got a season opening win over Pinkston 55-50 and then dropped two games in a row to Kennedale 53-43 and Paris 68-58. Anna then rattled off six straight wins beginning with a blowout win over Denison 77-33. That was followed with wins against Whitesboro 50-40, Whitewright 62-40, Carrollton Turner 71-58, Princeton 54-32 and Caddo Mills 56-51.
The Coyotes dropped a loss to Trinity Christian 49-38 last weekend. Anna hosted Community (1-4) on Tuesday, December 15. They will travel to Gainesville on Friday, December 18 for their district opener. Aubrey (5-3) travels to Sanger (2-6) and Melissa (3-4) travels to Celina (8-4) for District 9-4A games.
District 9-4A includes Anna (7-3), Celina (8-4), Aubrey (5-3), Gainesville (4-4), Melissa (3-4), Van Alstyne (3-4) and Sanger (2-6).
The Coyotes holiday schedule includes a home game against Sanger on December 18, away game at Van Alstyne on December 29 and home game against Aubrey on January 1. All the contests are District 9-4A matchups.
The Anna Lady Coyotes are currently sitting at 0-1 in district and 4-8 on the season going into Tuesday, December 15 night’s game. The Lady Coyotes traveled to Celina (0-1/5-8) for the district showdown.
Anna opened district play with a 79-14 loss to district leading Melissa. In the first night of District 9-4A games Aubrey (1-0/3-4) defeated Celina (0-1/5-8) 47-34 and Van Alstyne (1-0/7-4) knocked off Gainesville (0-1/0-6) 63-7.
The Lady Coyotes opened their season in November with four straight losses to Wilson 44-35, Pottsboro 50-30, Blue Ridge 47-29 and Ferris 43-37.
Anna is .500 after that, winning four and losing four, with wins over Tioga 51-24, Quinlan Ford 31-26, Farmersville 38-34 and Callisburg 57-35. The other four losses were to Northwest 40-36, Richardson Pearce 51-30, Oak Cliff Family Faith Academy 63-22 and their district opener 79-14 to Melissa.
The Lady Coyotes holiday schedule includes a home game against Van Alstyne on December 29, away game at Aubrey on January 2 and at Melissa on January 8. All of the contests are District 9-4A contests.
