Melissa Cardinal boys cross country compete at state
Anna has two individual qualifiers for Nov. 24 meet
Arlington - Melissa’s boys cross country team traveled to Arlington on November 9 and secured a trip to the UIL State Cross Country meet at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock on November 24. The Cardinals finished the regional meet with three runners finishing in the top 20 led by senior Judson Greer who finished first overall in 14:53.48.
Greer is the two-time defending state champion from 2018 and 2019, but this is the team’s first time to qualify as a squad.
The Melissa cross country team finished in 1:21:58.07 with an average time of 16.23.61. Seniors Lucas Tauch (2) 15:57.07 and Alex Branscome (12) 16:41.95 were in the top 15. Tristen Weaver, senior (16) 16:57.10 and David Ross Graham, junior (29) 17:47.90 rounded out the Cardinal top five finishers. Freshman Abrum Mitchell (30) and senior Carson Ross (56) also performed well for Melissa.
Anna is also sending two runners to the State meet. Freshman brother and sister duo Kenny Bibb (6) 16:18.25 and Claire Bibb (14) 12:33.03 qualified as individuals. The format for the State meet is the top three teams and top ten individuals.
The Class 4A competition at Round Rock will take place on Wednesday, November 24 with the girls race starting at 11:45 am. The boys race will be immediately following at 12:30 pm.
