Anna will be celebrating Independence Day June 26 at Slayter Park

Anna is kicking off its Fourth of July festivities a little early this year.  The city’s Independence Day celebration, Boots & Booms, will take place this starting at 5 p.m. this Saturday, June 26 at Slayter Creek Park. City officials encourage residents to come out, bring lawn chairs if they like, and enjoy games and an evening of family fun.

The event was scheduled for the weekend before July 4  so that the city could secure top-of-the-line fireworks, music and equipment. Many of these things are book years in advance, making it difficult for a new event to initially get the prime date.

Popular local band Texas Flood set the tone with its high-energy set.  The groups began as a Stevie Ray Vaughn tribute band.  These days it has evolved into a blues band that performs covers as well as their own music.

Don’t expect anyone to go home hungry from the event.  Several food trucks will be offering up an eclectic array of culinary delight.  Among those expected to be on-site are Shonda’s Shaved Ice, Frio’s Pop Food Truck, Hollis BBQ, Smoken S BBQ, Blue Brisket, Windy City Hot Dogs, Chef Donisha Peters, Trini Style Bake ‘n Shark & Tings, and Crunchies.

Of course, the highlight of any Independence Day celebration is typically the fireworks show.  This year, Anna officials have secured the service of the company behind Addison’s Kaboom Town to coordinate the pyrotechnics.  While Boots & Booms may not quite be that spectacle yet, expect to experience a show unlike anything Anna has seen before.
