staff reports
Melissa ISD also announced preliminary plans for a new virtual school. The district intends to offer an online school option for students in grades 6-12.

Melissa Independent School District has unveiled its new elementary school boundaries for the 2021-22 school year. The new lines were the result of collective and ongoing growth planning conducted jointly by the district’s administrative team, Davis Demographics, and the board of trustees.  They were approved during the May 10 school board meeting.  Specifics can be found on the district website.

Transportation routes for the upcoming school year are scheduled to be announced in August. Parents or guardians of students planning to ride the bus next year must complete the online student transportation request form.

Registration for students new to the district is now open online. Returning student registration will begin online on July 12.

Melissa ISD also announced preliminary plans for a new virtual school. The district intends to offer an online school option for students in grades 6-12. This will be an independent campus offering both synchronous and asynchronous instruction.

Virtual students will not be eligible for UIL activities at Melissa Middle School or Melissa High School. Students will not be given the option of switching back and forth between virtual and in-person instruction during the school year.

The district has created a survey to garner interest from parents and guardians considering the remote option for next school year.
