Melissa adds quint to vehicle load
The city of Melissa has added a new tool to its arsenal. The fire department recently acquired a ladder truck. Known in the firefighting industry as a “quint,” the new apparatus will serve as both an engine and a ladder truck.
Quint comes from the Latin prefix “quinque,” which means five. The truck is called this because it performs five functions: pump, water tank, fire hose, aerial device, and ground ladders. Over the past several months, Melissa firefighters have been training for the new apparatus so that they will be able to make full use of the vehicle when it is called upon.
