Anna UMC destroyed in fire
An early Friday morning fire destroyed Anna United Methodist Church. There were no injuries reported.
According to a release from the Anna Fire Department, the blaze broke out around 1 a.m. at the church located near the intersection of Riggins Street and Second Street. Firefighters from Melissa, McKinney, Westminster, Weston and Blue Ridge were also called to help contain the flames.
The fire is currently under investigation by the Anna Fire Department with assistance from the Collin County Arson Task Force, Texas State Fire Marshal's Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. A spokesperson for the Anna Fire Department said there would be no additional comments on the investigation at this time.
Anna city staff, City Council and Mayor Nate Pike issued a joint statement on social media Friday morning pledging their full support and offering to provide assistance. Pike called the news “devastating” and asked residents to keep the church in their prayers.
As of Friday afternoon, church officials were still considering their next steps, including the possible creation of a GoFundMe site. In the meantime, they referred those looking to make donations to the “Giving” section of their website annatxumc.com.
