Anna prepares for 12 days of Christmas events

Staff reports
Santa and Mrs. Claus take a well-deserved break during Anna’s 2019 Christmas festivities.

The start of December marks the beginning of the 12 Days of Anna Christmas. City officials have put together 12 daily family events that they hope will bring residents, businesses and civic organizations together in the spirit of the season.

The festivities begin Dec. 1 with a performance by the Anna High School Band on Facebook.  That will be followed by a wreath decorating contest, an elf on a shelf contest and the letters to Santa pick-up at Sherley Heritage Park.

December 5 brings a Christmas scavenger hunt.  That will be followed by an ugly sweater contest, Christmas tree contest and a Dec. 8 Christmas train craft session at 7 p.m. on Facebook

An ornament craft event will be conducted live on Facebook Dec. 9. The following day’s highlight will be a Christmas cookie decorating contest, followed by the Dec. 11 story time with Mrs. Clause on Facebook at 7 p.m.

The 12 days of Anna Christmas culminates with the Dec. 12 Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Sherley Heritage Park.

In addition to the scheduled events, local kids can pick up free Christmas kits between 3-7 Nov. 30 at Slayter Creek Park. These will include a coloring book, color your own stocking, crayons, watercolor paint, paintbrush, sun catcher snowflake ornament, Christmas train craft, an “I believe" bell, individually packaged cookies, a hot chocolate packet and a candy cane.

More details for each event will be posted next week on the city of Anna’s website and social media accounts.
