The city of Melissa may soon be getting its first major chain grocery store.  During a Nov. 12 special joint meeting of the City Council and Planning & Zoning Commission, officials approved plans for a Kroger grocery store to be built at the Cardinal Village development near the interaction of Texas 121 and Washington Drive.

The project now goes to Kroger’s capital committee.  If approved, the company would then work to finalize construction plans. City officials were universally excited at the prospect of a national grocery chain coming to Melissa.

Kroger joins a growing list of high-profile retails flocking to this quickly transforming retail corridor along Highway 121 near East Melissa Road.  Taco Bell, Burger King, Braum's, McDonald's and Wing Stop have all either recently opened in the area or have plans to do so.
