Anna voters chose to keep one school board trustee incumbent and said goodbye to another.
Challenger Joshua Carpenter topped 12-year Place 7 incumbent Larissa Thornburg by more than five percentage points. He excitedly thanked supporters on social media when the results became official in the wee hours of the morning.
“We did it!! We were able to beat a 12-year Incumbent candidate,” he said. “Thank you for all your support and your votes. Thank you for your messages, calls and texts. Now it is time to get to work! It is indeed a good day to be a Coyote!!”
In the Place 5 race, Clark Miller narrowly won a second term on the school board. He topped challenger Rebecca Saveal by only 66 votes. Miller said it was a unique election because there would be a lot of new voters who would not normally vote in a school board contest.
“I’m happy and humbled to accept the win of course and I look forward to building on the foundation we’ve established as a Team of 8 in recent years,” he said. “We’ve got some great challenges ahead and we have a great board in place to face those head-on and do what’s best for all of the students in our district. It’s a great day to be a Coyote.”
A total of 8,215 people voted in the Anna ISD contest. More than 7,000 of them voted early and an additional 298 voted by mail.
