Anna teens successful at stock show scramble
A pair of Anna teens participated earlier this month in the 2020 Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo’s Calf Scramble and walked away winners.
Jaden Adams and Ethan Dunlap are members of Anna FFA, an organization that works to prepare youths to take on leadership roles and careers in the agriculture industry.
During the annual Calf Scramble, 20 students have the chance to catch calves as part of the nearly two dozen performances that take place during the stock show and rodeo, which runs through Feb. 8 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth.
The legendary scramble has been held since 1987. Over the years, upward of 7,600 members of FFA as well as 4-H have caught calves in the arena and won $3.8 million in heifer purchase certificates and nearly $3 million in scholarships.
Adams, the son of Jason and Jennifer Adams, won a $500 purchase certificate and an opportunity to earn up to $16,000 in scholarships. His award was sponsored by Texas Health Care and Dr. Larry D. Tatum.
Dunlap won the same prize. The son of Adam and Christina Dunlap, his award was sponsored by Linda and Jim Ryffel.
The teens plan to use their certificates for the purchase of individual heifers that each will raise and exhibit as part of a 4-H or FFA project at the 2021 stock show.
