LDS church gives Feed the Need $5K
The North Texas Feed the Need organization received a $5,000 donation from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Monday, June 21, 2021. The church made the donation to help Feed the Need in their effort to feed children in the Anna and Melissa areas during the summer months.
According Becca Faust, an organizer for Feed the Need, the organization was started by local mothers who wanted to help feed children during school breaks and summer months who might be lacking food in their own homes. In 2017, local mothers made sandwiches and snacks to give to local families in need. Since then, Feed the Need has grown substantially, and now is able to provide ingredients to families to make their own food including sandwiches, snacks and drinks.
Over 182 children from more than 47 families have benefited from Feed the Need. The latest statistics show over 50,000 children are at risk of suffering from hunger in these areas.
The donation from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is part of its ongoing global effort to address the immediate needs that affect the poor and needy. They look for partnerships who share the same values to help those who are helping to feed the hungry, clothe the naked and love as Jesus Christ did.
Becca Faust estimates that the $5000 donation from the church will allow Feed the Need to supply bread, peanut butter, jelly, and snacks for the rest of the summer months. She said, “Our mission is to reach as many families as possible and provide food for every child in need in our area during the summer and school breaks. With the donation from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, we will be able to feed all our children through the summer and we are so incredibly grateful for their support.”
President Brett Gustaveson, who is the leader in the Melissa area representing The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, was present when the donation was made. He said, “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is dedicated to caring for the poor and needy. North Texas Feed the Need aligns with that mission and we are happy and grateful to support them in their service to the children of the Anna and Melissa areas.” If you would like to serve as a volunteer for Feed the Need, you can sign up on the website at https://www.ntftn.org/registration-1
