A combination of strong pitching and hitting has given Rouse another strong start. Few players are hotter than Dalton Porter, a Texas signee who is 17 for 32 with a homer, four triples, three doubles and 23 RBIs. He also has 12 stolen bases in 14 games. Overall, coach Chad Krempin’s team is hitting .337 and has an ERA of 1.70. Senior Fischer Kingsbery (3-0, 34 strikeouts) and junior Andrew Kithil (3-0, 20 strikeouts) lead a strong pitching staff.


Pflugerville senior outfielder Nick Arriola has become a dangerous dual threat as a pitcher and center fielder. He is hitting .389 with an .586 OBP. He is also 1-1 on the mound for coach Dale Waggoner’s team. ... Lake Travis junior pitcher Jack Litowitz struck out nine batters in a 12-0 decision over San Antonio LEE to earn his first varsity win. ... Lampasas ace pitcher Ace Whitehead (2-0 record) continues to shine on the mound, striking out 21 batters in 13 ⅔ innings. He is batting .527 with 29 hits in 16 games.

Travis Chestnut, shortstop, Pflugerville: After a strong start, the Panther senior is hitting .457 with six doubles, two triples, 15 runs scored and 16 stolen bases. He made the All-District team last year and was second-team All-Central Texas.

4. Glenn (6-2, 0-0) ― After a slow start, the Grizzlies produced a six-game winning streak.


5. Dripping Springs (8-6, 0-0) ― Earned a 2-1 victory over Pflugerville to close out play before the break.

1. Liberty Hill (12-3) ― Lost to Fort Bend Travis 1-0 and beat Cypress Bridgeland 4-3 in the Fort Bend tournament.

3. Giddings (8-2, 0-0) ― Buffaloes have outscored their 10 opponents 78-39.


4. Brentwood Christian (5-1) ― Allowed a total of 16 runs through the first six games.


5. Thorndale (6-6-1, 1-0) ― Light-hitting Bulldogs relying on pitching staff that has 1.88 ERA.
