The Anna Lady Coyotes posted a 3-2-2 mark in last week’s non-district play, starting with a shutout win over Bonham and concluding with six games at the Denton Ryan tournament. Below are brief recaps of all those contests.


The Lady Cards, now 7-4-2 overall, host Sanger in the district opener March 17.


Lady Coyotes 10, Bonham 0


Anna broke out the big bats in shutting out Class 4A Bonham Feb. 25 at the Anna Sports Complex. Hannah Morland tripled and doubled for the Lady Coyotes, while Hannah Price clubbed a triple and Amber Thille and Madi McPherson both smacked doubles. Price also started in the pitcher’s circle, working three innings, allowing one hit and five walks while striking out four. Thille came on in the fourth and scattered three hits over three innings with four strikeouts and no walks. Anna led, 6-0, after two innings and was never threatened. Two Lady Warrior pitchers combined to permit nine hits and five walks while striking out three.


Lady Coyotes 4, Keller JV 4


In their Denton Ryan tourney-opener Feb. 27, Anna battled the Class 6A Lady Indians’ JV squad to a tie. The Lady Coyotes rallied for two runs in the fifth inning to get to even, with Qua Fisher’s single to left sending Thille home from second base for the equalizer. Morland, Fisher, Carlie Fullenwider and Shelby Dombrowski all went 2-for-3 at the plate. Thille pitched all five innings of this time-limited contest, spreading six hits and a walk while striking out six. The Lady Coyotes out-hit Keller JV, 10-6, but were slowed by five errors.


Marcus JV 5, Lady Coyotes 0


Also on Feb. 27, Anna was shutout by Class 6A Marcus’ JV squad. The Lady Marauders struck for two runs in the first inning and three in the fourth while holding Anna to two hits, both in the first inning. In the circle, starter Price and Thille combined to allow 10 hits and no walks, with Thille striking out three. Dombrowski and Morland had first-inning singles for the Lady Coyotes.


Iowa Park 14, Lady Coyotes 0


The Class 4A Lady Hawks dealt Anna another shutout Feb. 28, striking for three home runs and three doubles in the run-rule shortened contest. Iowa Park put up 12 hits as the Lady Coyotes posted three errors.


Anna 15, Denton Ryan JV 2


The Lady Coyotes bounced back on Feb. 28 to rout the Class 5A Lady Raiders’ JV team. Kallie Harris, Katelyn Gonzalez and Jaquelyn Packard each tallied 3 RBIs, with Harris going 3-for-3 at the plate with a double. Gonzalez slapped two doubles and Dombrowski added another as Anna out-hit this opponent, 11-1. Gonzalez also pitched all three innings of this run rule-curtailed match, striking out two and walking seven. Each squad was tagged with three errors.


Anna 0, ILT-Keller 0


On Feb. 29, the Lady Coyotes fought to a five-inning tie with the charter-school Eagles. Price collected Anna’s lone hit, a double in the fourth frame. Price also worked four innings in the circle, permitting three hits and a walk. Thille came on for the final frame, allowing one hit and striking out one.


Anna 6, Braswell 3


The Lady Coyotes’ bats were back as they closed out tournament play Feb. 29 with a win over the Class 5A Lady Bengals. Anna put up 10 hits - with Dombrowski, Morland and Fisher all swatting doubles - while Thille held Braswell to five hits and struck out three in the four-inning contest. Leading, 4-3, in the top of the fourth the Lady Coyotes picked up two insurance runs – the first coming on Morland’s 2-out single to center that brought home Dombrowski from second. Madison Gaston followed with an infield single, putting runners at the corners for Thille. Thille then slapped a 2-2 pitch into center field, scoring Morland. Anna held a 2-1 lead after one inning.
