Melissa’s Lady Cards bounced back from its first-ever district loss to defeat Gainesville, 2-1, Feb. 17 at Cardinal Stadium.


The Lady Leopards jumped on top, 1-0, in the first period but Melissa’s Kylie Kroese evened the score before halftime with a Bobbi Brosamle-Norton-assisted goal.


Macie Robertson got the Lady Cards’ eventual game-winner in the second period, with a Hanna Waters assist. The result advanced Melissa’s district record to 2-1 while Gainesville dropped to 0-2.


Meanwhile, in District 9-4A boys soccer action Feb. 17 at Cardinal Stadium, Melissa was shutout by Gainesville, 6-0.


The first-place Leopards led, 2-0, at halftime and their final goal came with just under six minutes left to play.


Gainesville put up 13 shots-on-goal to the Cards’ 2. Goalkeeper Hunter Tallichet worked the entire match for Melissa, collecting seven saves. With the result, the Cards’ district mark fell to 0-3 and Gainesville improved to 2-0.
