The Celina Bobcats defeated Melissa, 44-34, Feb. 18 at Melissa Middle School to claim their third-straight outright district championship.


The Bobcats rallied from seven points down after three quarters with a 25-8 surge the rest of the way. Guards Bryson Brown and Karson Stastny led Celina (10-0) with 13 and 11 points, respectively.


A Melissa win would have tied the Cards (8-2) with Celina for the District 11-4A title.


Leading Melissa shooters this night were guard Ezra Monroe with 17 points and guard CJ Shellie with nine. The Cards finish the regular season as the district’s No. 2 playoff seed and were set to meet Wilmer-Hutchins Feb. 24, at Naaman Forest High School in Garland.
