In District 11-4A hoops action Feb. 7, Melissa’s Lady Cardinals were topped by Sanger 47-39. Guard Wendy Clemmons led the Lady Cards (7-2) with 12 points and guard Mia Ellis added 11 to Melissa’s cause. Clemmons and Ellis both went three-for-four from the free throw line.


Guard Lexi Martin logged a team-high 12 points for the Lady Indians.


Both teams managed two three-pointers each.


Sanger got out to a 15-6 lead, but the Lady Cards fired back to trail 20-19 at halftime, led by seven points from Clemmons. The Lady Indians (4-5) then doubled-up their visitors to lead 40-28 by the end of three quarters.


The loss moved Melissa into second place in district play with one game left in the regular season (the Lady Cards were set to host first-place Aubrey Feb. 11).
