Staff report

The Anna Coyotes earned a much-needed District 11-4A road win Feb. 7, stopping Aubrey on Senior Night, 65-57. The victory improved the fourth-place Coyotes’ district mark to 3-4 with three games left in the regular season. After posting a 10-point lead at the end of one quarter, Anna led 33-29 at halftime.

Aubrey had gotten by the Coyotes, 51-49, Jan. 21.

“We needed that one,” Anna head coach Kyle Phifer said by phone Feb. 8. “We played well the whole game. They made some runs there because they have some seniors and those kids know how to win. But I’m really proud of our kids. They played hard.”

Guards Zay Gentry and Jayden Rodgers poured in 16 points each to lead Anna, with 14 of Gentry’s points coming in the second half. Five different Coyotes hit a three-pointer in the first quarter – Rodgers, Jaden Adams, Bullet Geer, Jaiden Campbell and Josiah Mackey. Rodgers went on to drain two more treys before halftime and finished with a team-high four.

Anna collected canned 11 threes on the night and forward Jackson Vandagriff pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds. ______________________________________________________
