Melissa guard Ezra Monroe pumped in 21 points to help lead the Melissa Cardinals to a 53-47 victory over Sanger in District 11-4A basketball action Feb. 7.


Cards guards Hudson Czarnecki and CJ Shellie added 16 and 10 points, respectively, as Melissa (6-1) solidified its grip on the district’s second playoff seed with three games left in the regular season.


The Cards built a 29-17 lead by halftime then overcame foul trouble to hold off a late charge by Sanger (1-6). Guard Zachary Cochran posted a team-high 15 points for the Indians.
