GAINESVILLE – Severe weather moving through North Texas Jan. 10 and 111 last forced the cancellation of Melissa’s basketball district-opener at Gainesville.

The contest, originally slated for Jan. 10, was moved to Jan. 11 due to waves of severe thunderstorms that passed through the region.

The meeting an. 11 was called off as well, as a cold front’s arrival brought ice and snow.

The Lady Cards’ district-opener at Gainesville is now scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Friday.

On Jan. 7, the Lady Cards (14-9) closed out their non-district slate with a 74-13 rout of Class 4A Community on the Lady Braves’ home court.

Ashley Gideon led Melissa with 14 points as Grace Moothart pumped in 13.

Three other Lady Cards netted 10 points each, including Katie Sparks, Wendy Clemmons and Mya Ellis. Melissa held a 36-3 advantage at halftime.
