The Anna Lady Coyotes went undefeated in their first outing of the season last week, posting a 3-0-1 mark in soccer tournament action at Kennedale.

The Lady Coyotes’ defense did not allow a single goal over the four matches, with shutout wins over Class 4A Kaufman, Class 5A Fort Worth Polytechnic and A+ Academy - and a scoreless tie with 4A Paris.

Goalkeeper Payton Wickliffe posted three of Anna’s shutouts – versus Paris, Kaufman and FW Poly - and backup keeper Macie Deaver blanked A+ Academy.

“The defense was stout,” Lady Coyotes head coach Marlon Madrigal said.

After tying Paris in its season-opener on Jan 3., Anna went on to rout A+ Academy, 11-0, later that day. The morning of Jan. 4, the Lady Coyotes edged 4A Kaufman, 1-0, then closed out tourney play with a 9-0 victory over Polytechnic.

For the tournament, Mariah Gonzalez led Anna scorers with six goals while Kaitlynn Long collected three goals and five assists. Other Lady Coyote scoring contributors included Krista Valdez - two goals, two assists; Lisa Ottleben – one goal, two assists; Martina Bancher – two goals, one assist; Priscilla Chacon – one goal, two assists; Catie Chavez – two goals, one assist; Katelyn Ardiles – one goal three assists; Layla Lageman – one goal; and Angie Rossi – one goal.
