Facing 39 of the best young runners in the United States last Saturday at the Footlocker National Cross Country Championships in San Diego, Melissa junior Judson Greer claimed fifth place in the Boys Final, finishing the hilly 3.1-mile course at Balboa Park in 15 minutes, 22.2 seconds.
Greer was the only high school junior among the race’s Top 9 finishers – the rest being seniors. The top two finishers, Josh Methner of Illinois and Carter Solomon of Michigan, respectively, are both Notre Dame commits while third-place finisher Patrick Anderson of Pennsylvania is committed to North Carolina. Aledo’s Graydon Morris, who took fourth and is Texas’ 5A state champ, will run for the University of Texas.
To reach the Boys’ Final, Greer won the Foot Locker South Regional Cross Country Championship, Nov. 30, at Charlotte, N.C. There, competing against 402 runners from 14 states, Greer mastered that course in a first-place time of 14 minutes, 57.4 seconds.
In UIL competition for Melissa, Greer is Texas’ two-time Class 4A defending cross country champion. He also won two gold medals at last spring’s Class 4A track and field championships in Austin – one in the 1,600 meters, one in the 3,200 meters.
Greer is the son of Reed and Kerry Greer.
