Melissa boys cross country runners Judson Greer and Lucas Tauch claimed first and second place, respectively, at the Class 4A Region II meet on Oct. 28 in Dallas. With those performances the pair earned berths to the 4A state meet, Nov. 9, in Round Rock. Greer, a junior, is the defending 4A state champion.
At regionals, Greer clocked in at 15 minutes, 2.8 seconds, on the 3.1-mile course while fellow junior Tauch finished in 15 minutes, 51.47 seconds. The regional meet field included 173 runners.
As a team, the Cards place seventh at regionals in the field of 32 teams represented.
Melissa Lady Cardinal Alison Kocsis earned her fourth-straight trip to state during the Class 4A Region II cross country meet. Kocsis completed the 2-mile distance in 12 minutes, 44.01 seconds, for 14th place in the field of 173 runners.
Melissa freshman Abi Bass claimed second place overall with a time of 11 minutes, 48.58 seconds, and will join Kocsis in Austin. The Lady Cards finished sixth as team in the field of 36 teams represented.
Anna Lady Coyotes Caroline Boykin and Aimee Landers-Wilburn finished 23rd and 33rd, respectively, out of 173 runners at the Class 4A Region II cross country meet. Boykin, a junior, turned in a time of 12 minutes, 54.5 seconds, on the 2-mile course and the senior Landers-Wilburn finished in 13 minutes, 8.07 seconds.
“They’ve had a great season,” Anna head coach Scott O’Connor said. “They’ve both been really resilient and tough. … They both had times that probably would have qualified them for state, but it was tough. They gave it the best they had on that day. They followed the plan, how I asked them to race. They came up a little short, as far as not qualifying for state, but by no means was it not a successful season.”
