The Melissa Cardinals rolled past Whitesboro, 15-4, in district team tennis play on Oct. 1 at Anna High School. With the win, the Cards earned the third playoff seed from District 11-4A and will face a still-to-be-determined bi-district opponent, Oct. 14 or 15.


Versus Whitesboro, the Cards swept all three Boys Doubles matches and all six Boys Singles matches. The Melissa girls took two-of-three doubles matches and four-of-six singles matches. The Cards also won two Mixed Doubles matches.


In Boys Doubles, Melissa winners were Dawson Mercer/John Lewis, 6-1, 6-2, 7-5; Zach Butterfield/Jake Fowler, 6-1, 6-0; and Wilson Gustaveson/Noah Strickland, 6-2, 6-1. Boys Singles winners included: Lewis, 4-6, 6-3, 10-8; Fowler, 6-3, 6-2; Mercer, 6-1, 6-1; Butterfield, 8-5; A.J. Gonzales, 8-0; and Om Patel, 6-2, 6-1.


In Girls Doubles, Mackenzie Wilkie/Ximena Buhr won, 6-3, 4-6, 10-5; Reese Maddock/Emma Krause won, 6-1, 6-2. Melissa winners in Girls Singles included: Sierra Thomas, 8-6; Maddock, 8-2; Krause, 6-3, 6-1; Buhr, 6-1. In Mixed Doubles, Cards winners were Sarah Keeton/A.J. Gonzales, 6-4, 6-3; and Osaze Osemenkhe/Om Patel, 8-1.
