Melissa (19-5) swept four matches on Thursday and took two of three on Saturday to earn third place at Nocona’s Buckle Up For Lane’s Sake volleyball tournament. This annual non-district competition hosted by Nocona High School is named in memory of a local high school student who died in a car accident 20 years ago. Twenty-five teams participated this year.

Melissa’s wins on Thursday went 25-21, 25-9 over 3A Jacksboro; 25-14, 25-11 over 2A Alvord; 25-22, 25-15 over 4A Iowa Park; and 25-16, 25-12 over 2A Archer City.

Melissa’s Saturday matches included a 25-21, 25-18 win over 4A Vernon; 24-26, 25-14, 25-20 win over 3A Gunter; and 17-25, 25-22, 23-25 loss to 3A Nocona.

This was Lady Cards’ final tournament of the non-district season. Single-match non-district play continues for three more weeks. Melissa starts district competition at Anna on Sept. 27.
