Anna’s varsity basketball team competed at the Texas Basketball Championships Summer State Tournament, June 20-23, at Grapevine Middle School. Other venues for the tourney included Colleyville Heritage High School and Trinity High School in Euless. Forty-three boys’ teams competed in four divisions: Division 1 for Class 5A-6A, Class 4A, Class 3A and Division 2 for Class 1A-2A.

Eighteen teams competed in Anna’s Class 4A division. In pool play, the Coyotes defeated Sinton, 63-55, but fell to Life Waxahachie, Krum and Salado. In bracket play that followed, Anna dropped a 57-51 decision to Ferris then was defeated by eventual Consolation bracket champion Caddo Mills, 65-55.

Decatur won the 4A division with a 65-40 win over Burkburnett.

“I was very happy with the way the players competed and our commitment to get better,” Anna head coach Kyle Phifer said. “We played against very good competition throughout the weekend and learned a lot about our team.”

The TBC promotes high school basketball during the spring and summer months through a series of statewide events. The organization is not associated with the UIL.

The Coyotes travel to Austin this weekend for team camp at the University of Texas.
