Eagle’s Wings Athletics in Anna recently had four members who qualified in the Excel Gymnastics Meet and advanced to USA Gymnastics State Championships.

The events that the four girls will compete in are floor exercise, balance beam, vault and the uneven bars. Shannon Martin and Lucy Lewis are both 12-years-old Excel Silver competitors. The girls’ team head coach, Chloe Brennan, said Shannon has been the all-around champion twice this season.

Charlee Jones is 11-years-old and Hannah Myers is 6, and they are both Excel Bronze competitors. Brennan said there was not enough girls on the team to receive a team score, however they competed individually against “dozens of other girls.”

The state competition is a USAG sanctioned gymnastics meet for Texas athletes in the four events. The participants compete in their individual levels for placement and medals. They also receive medals and placement for an all around score, meaning all four scores combined.

Emily Myers, the mother of Hannah Myers, said passion is what drives the girls to success.

“Our gym is small, but these girls have so much passion for this sport,” Emily Myers said. “Each of them practices at least nine hours a week at the gym with their amazing coach Chloé. Then, they come home and practice in their free time. I know they are all young but these girls are athletes in the truest sense of the word. I can’t tell you how grateful I am for the EWA gym and its owner Bret South.”

Brennan said the girls advancing to state and being mentioned in the newspaper is extra special for her.

“It’s super special to me that my girls are being featured in the newspaper because when I was a gymnast at the same gym in Allen, I was featured on the cover of the Allen newspaper representing Eagle’s Wings,” Brennan said. “I still have the newspaper.”

In addition to its Anna location, Eagle’s Wings has a location in Prosper.
