Melissa Middle School’s new softball team hosted its first-ever home game on April 22 and the Lady Cardinals came away with a 7-2 win over Tom Bean. This is first year for Melissa Middle School softball and its league also includes Trenton and Sam Rayburn.
The team is coached by Devorah McPherson, Jennifer Henry and Steve Shuman.
After dropping the inaugural contest at Trenton, the Lady Cards are 2-1 after a win at Sam Rayburn and that home-opener victory.
Versus Tom Bean, starting pitcher Kindred Johnson worked all three innings for Melissa, striking out three and scattering six hits. Autumn Bell led the Lady Cards at the plate with two hits and an RBI.
Trailing, 1-0, after one half-inning, Melissa rallied for three runs in its half of the first and led, 4-2, after two frames. The Lady Cards pulled away with three more in the third, boosted by RBIs from Abigail Bass and Haleigh Shaw.
