DALLAS — Melissa’s Bria Bullard sprinted to gold medals in the 100 and 200-meter dash on April 16 at the District 11/12-4A area meet in Dallas, leading the Lady Cardinals push to regionals. All told, 13 Melissa girls in six events qualified for the Class 4A Region 2 meet in Commerce, April 26-27.
Bullard’s first-place time in the 100 was 11.82 seconds, just a hair ahead of teammate silver-medalist Kaylee Lewis at 11.84. In the 200, Bullard finished in 24.53 seconds and Lewis took the bronze with a time of 25.32 seconds.
Pole-vaulter Marisa Brunson also earned gold for Melissa, clearing 9 feet, 6 inches, while teammates Lillian Rogers and Raegan Knight earned silver and bronze, respectively. Rogers cleared 8 feet, 6 inches and Knight’s effort surpassed 7 feet, 6 inches.
Also qualifying for regionals were Payton Wallace, Bria Bullard, Jayden Bullard, and Lewis, whose 48.72-second finish in the 4x100 relay earned silver, and Jayden Bullard who took fourth in the 400 meters with a time of one minute and 2.25 seconds.
Shot-putter Susan Blake also earned her return to the regional meet with a fourth-place toss of 31 feet and four inches.
The Lady Cards finished fourth overall in the 11-team field.
