Celina eases by Lady Coyotes

Celina’s Lady Bobcats plated a run in the fourth and one in the sixth to edge Anna, 2-0, on March 26 in District 11-4A action at the Anna Sports Complex. With the result, the Lady Coyotes (3-2) remained tied for second place with Melissa at the midpoint of the district race.

Anna pitcher Hannah Howell tossed a complete game, allowing eight hits and one earned run while striking out five and walking one. For Celina (2-3), Micayla Galloway struck out 10 and permitted two hits with five walks in a complete game as well. Howell collected both of Anna’s hits, including a double in the fifth inning.

Lady Bobcat Grace Cantu went 3-for-4 with the bat, with a pair of doubles, and teammate Aspyn Sanchez also posted a double. Cantu’s first two-bagger led off the fourth frame and she reached third base one batter later on an infield error then scored on a throwing error. The other Cantu double opened the sixth, followed by an infield single and a strikeout. Sarah Rosinbaum then drove a 2-2 pitch into left field, scoring Cantu, but Hannah Morland’s throw to catcher Kallie Harris at the plate was in time to get the next runner for Out 2. Howell closed out the half-inning with another K.
