Besides qualifying for his AARP card, East View Coach Rob Davies will remember his 50th birthday for quite a while as the Patriots claimed a share of the District 13-5A Division II championship with a workmanlike 38-7 victory over Elgin Friday night at Birkelbach Field.

With a 17-0 third quarter lead, East View (6-4, 5-2 District 13-5A DII) broke the game open with three third-quarter touchdowns in a 1:31 span.

With the Patriots leading 10-0 at the half, all three phases of the team scored in the third quarter to break open the contest.

Zion Hester’s third carry of the quarter resulted in a 40-yard scoring scamper.

East View scored its next three touchdowns in rapid succession.

First Isaiah Quentin-Jackson broke loose on a 47-yard scamper to push the lead to 24-0 with 7:57 remaining in the third. Hester’s third TD run of the night, this one from five yards out, was set up as the Patriots blocked Elgin’s punt and recovered on the Wildcat five. Fittingly, the scoring barrage was capped by the defense. Isaiah Knight rumbled 18 yards with a fumble recovery to give East View a 38-0 lead with 6:26 remaining in the third quarter.

“I never get to see the ball and once I get to see it, it’s six,” commented a shocked Knight. “Honestly, I thought, dang, I am pretty slow.”

Elgin, (4-6, 3-4) marched the length of the field, covering 96 yards, averting the shutout as Trevon Black found the end zone from eight yards out.

Hester's 159 yards on the ground brings his season total to 1,472 yards.

East View garnered a piece of the district title as Bastrop upset Glenn 42-28.

“A district title, that’s what I wanted for my birthday,” commented Davies, moments after being serenaded with 'Happy Birthday' over the stadium’s sound system.

East View will matchup with Alamo Heights, Boerne Champion or Medina Valley in the bi-district round of the playoff next week.
