The Melissa Cardinals picked up a crucial overtime road win at Bonham, 67-61, on Friday, Feb. 9.

Now, with one district game remaining, the Cards (6-3) are in sole possession of second place, two games back of Celina. They close out the regular season Feb. 13 at Aubrey (5-4).

Brendon Lewis collected a “double-double” for Melissa with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Matt Holloway’s 12 points were next for the Cards.

Bonham’s Wyatt Dolberry sent the game to overtime at 54-all with a layup “and 1.” In the extra period, Holloway led Melissa’s final push, draining a 3 and sinking five-of-six free throws. Lewis, Mark Fisher and Ezra Monroe also hit crucial singles from the line in OT.

The Cards led, 32-30, at halftime, 43-38 after three quarters.

Josh Upke pumped in 23 points to lead Bonham followed by Dolberry with 15 and Tyler Rodriguez with 14. Melissa outshot the Warriors 61 to 48 percent from the free throw line and held a 34-29 edge in rebounding.
