Melissa notched a 50-point victory at Bonham on Friday, Jan. 5, to open its 2018 district slate. Guard Sally Clemmons led the Lady Cards’ 78-28 barrage with 21 points, while forward Taylor Carney and guard Taylor Thomas posted 18 and 16 points, respectively. Clemmons also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, all on the offensive end, and nabbed four steals.

Carney’s five steals were tops for Melissa as were her three 3-pointers on five attempts. Thomas picked up a team-high four assists. Forward Charley Lane tallied six rebounds and six points.

After leading 38-19 at halftime, the Lady Cards (19-3, 1-0) poured it on with a 24-0 third quarter.

“(Bonham) Coach (Vince) Morgan’s girls were prepared for our presses,” Melissa head coach Heather Lane said, “but as we began to switch defenses, they had a hard time adjusting. We were able to work on several offenses and defenses throughout the game. Nine of our ten players were able to score, so that was nice for all of our kids to contribute. And I was really proud of our 37 rebounds.”

Melissa scorers: Sally Clemmons 21, Taylor Carney 18, Taylor Thomas 16, Charley Lane 6, Natalie Conlin 6, Allie Graham 4, Kayla Riles 3, Mya Ellis 2, Ashley Gideon 2.
