The Anna Coyotes defeated Community, 5-2, for their first win of the season on Friday, Jan. 5, at Princeton’s annual soccer tournament. This was Anna’s second match of the day at Jackie Hendricks Stadium after an earlier setback versus Class 5A Wylie East. The Coyotes (1-2) were led by Carlos Garrido and Jose Flores, who posted two goals each, and Isaac Nino, who added a single.

Anna put up 12 shots on goal to the Braves’ three.

Community struck first with a header-goal 10 minutes into the match. Moments later, Nino’s boot tied the score. Flores’ first goal, with a Nino assist, gave Anna the lead for good 16 minutes into the period. The score remained 2-1 into the break.

Early in the second period, Garrido’s first goal - with an assist from Jerrod Roberts - pushed the Coyotes’ advantage to 3-1. Garrido’s second, 22 minutes in with a Flores assist, boosted the lead to 4-1. After a Braves penalty-kick score, Flores closed out the match with his second goal at the 27:52 mark.

Anna goalkeepers Phillip Henson and David Joaquin allowed one goal each.
