Though the just-ended volleyball season didn’t turn out as Anna’s Lady Coyotes had hoped, the team was justly rewarded with numerous picks on the recently-posted District 11-4A superlatives and honors list. Senior middle Taylor Medrick was named the district’s Blocker of the Year and senior libero Micaela Cornelius received First-Team All-District honors. Earning Second-Team recognition was junior outside hitter Hannah Howell.
Honorable Mention selections for Anna included sophomore middle hitter Lexi Stewart and junior setter Bella Boyd. In addition, six Lady Coyotes received All-Academic recognition: Cornelius, Medrick, senior defensive specialist Julianne Curiel, and junior right-side hitters Lauren Morrison, Fekyra Wells and Lauren Schlicht.
Anna head coach Tomika Crosby offered comments on her team’s selections on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
“Overall, I’m extremely proud of all of these young ladies,” she said. “They are deserving of these honors. Taylor worked very hard to earn Blocker of the Year. She led our team in single and double blocks and will truly be missed next year.” As for Cornelius and Howell receiving First- and Second-Team accolades, respectively, Crosby said, “These young ladies are truly deserving of receiving such honors because of the roles they played on both offense and defense.”
Concerning her Honorable Mention selectees, Crosby said, “Bella, our setter, in her first year on varsity did an amazing job adapting to our offense and new style of play. And middle hitter Lexi Stewart was a great addition to our varsity team. She blossomed into a force, offensively and defensively. I’m excited to see what she does next year for us as she continues to grow.”
