At the Wills Point Tournament on Thursday, Dec. 1, the Lady Coyotes fell to Malakoff, 36-23, in non-district action. The Class 3A Lady Tigers (6-4) blanked Anna, 11-0, in the second quarter and led, 19-6, at the halftime break. The Lady Coyotes (1-5) bounced back to take the fourth stanza, 11-5, but it was too late.
“We got better today,” Anna head coach Grant Bergman said. “I was encouraged by our offensive aggression. We were outstanding on first-shot defense, but we were exposed a bit on the boards.”
Sophomore Angel Dube, with 5 points, was tops among Lady Coyote scorers, as senior Savannah Kendall and junior JaShell Evans each collected 4.
On Friday, Anna rebounded with 47-10 defeat of Class 3A Quitman. In a game that was never close, the Lady Coyotes rolled to a 27-8 halftime lead and shut out the one-win Lady Bulldogs in the fourth quarter.
Anna’s junior Taylor Medrick led all scorers with 11 points. Next on the Lady Coyotes’ scoring list were freshman Marianna Bert and senior Avery Oonk with 9 points each and Evans with 8.
On Saturday, the final day of the tournament, Anna (2-6) was topped by District 13-4A’s Brownsboro, 38-23, in a game the Lady Bears led, 22-5, at the halftime break. Oonk was Anna’s leading scorer with 7 points.
