When their season began a year ago, there were a few unknowns on the Melissa roster. They were young and new to the Class 3A level and in a new district, but by the end of the season the high-flying Lady Cardinals had made their name known.
Now they are a year older and more experienced and preparing for another spectacular season.
Melissa started its 2013 practices this week, and even just two days into workouts the squad feels the excitement building.
"I couldn’t be more excited to start volleyball practice this week," Melissa senior Whitney Taylor said. "After such a great season last year I am really looking forward to it! And I can’t wait for the season to officially start."
The Lady Cards have several games slated in the next few weeks, with an early scrimmage Friday at Howe High School against Howe and Aubrey and then a match-up against Frisco Lonestar in the regular season home opener the following Tuesday.
The following weekend will see Melissa co-host the annual Collin County Spikefest tournament on Thursday and Saturday.
