Coach Weston Bartlett’s vision of hosting Melissa’s own golf event became reality March 6 at Stone Creek Golf Club in Sherman with the initial playing of The Birdie Invitational Golf Tournament.
The Lady Cards took home the team title, topping 10 other teams in the process. Brooke Nolte won the individual title with a 79. Katlyn Watkins shot an 84 to take third, LeeAnn Cardwell followed with a 98, Kambri Gabel shot a 104 and Katie Brown added her 136 to round out the scoring.
The girls junior varsity squad gained much-needed tournament experience, as well, with Madison McColmb (134), Polina Tsybuline (140), Lauren Bell (148) and Lauren Brown (149) competing.
Momentum is building as The Lady Cards are looking to defend their district and regional titles from last year.
The boys golf team also competed in the tournament. The Cardinals, led by John Brown’s 84, finished out of the running as a team, but made strides on a very difficult course. Brodie Seeker finished with an 87, Dylan Luby shot an 89 and Aubrey Allen rounded out the scoring for the Cardinals with a 108.
