Want a preview of Melissa High School girls soccer? Then look no further as the girls pictured above are the future of the program.

The Lady Cardinals of the Melissa Soccer Club finished their season out with a win over the Frisco X-Treme on April 17. The 3-2 win gained the team a second place ranking with a 14-2-1 record in the U13 Girls Competitive Spring Soccer League of the Plano Sports Authority.

The 30 mile per hour gusts of wind didn’t slow down Reagan Eichel as she punched in the first goal midway through the first half. Emma Schaffer insured the win with a total of two goals on the night, including a left-footed shot from 25 yards out.

An aggressive defensive stand by goalie Brittany Morgan kept Frisco from going ahead; she tallied five combined saves on the night. Abigail Minchey, Gabriel Vidmar, Lilly Hubbard and Erin Eichel’s outstanding defensive play throughout the night kept the XTreme away from their goal.

The Melissa Soccer Club is an all-girls team currently comprised of U13 players from Melissa and the surrounding area. The girls have been playing together for the past three years.

Their success has led them to compete, and compete well, in leagues comprised of Select teams. The girls have a total three-year combined record of 68-8-5. Beginning June 1, the team will continue its play in the PSA Soccer Academy Indoor League.

Coach Greg Schaeffer said this group of girls is a dedicated bunch, and they will continue to grow and get better as they get older.

The girls are looking forward to competing for the Melissa ISD as the district has committed to adding soccer to its curriculum in the fall of 2014.
