Melissa United Methodist Church tasked students in grades 6-12 with the responsibility of collecting non-perishable food items for Melissa Community Outreach. The students were given a list of items that MCO most often needs, including canned fruit, dry beans, macaroni and cheese, oatmeal and peanut butter.

The students traveled door-to-door inviting people to make a donation to the food pantry that supports numerous people each week. Students indicated they were pleasantly surprised by the generosity of their neighbors in Melissa as doors were opened and donations were easily provided. In 45 minutes the students collected nearly 150 non-perishable food items which were delivered to Melissa Community Outreach during operating hours.

Melissa Community Outreach offers every client a "full menu" on the first visit that is designed to feed a family for three-and-a-half days and screens for eligibility for further assistance. MCO is open on Mondays and Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Melissa United Methodist Church meets weekly at Harry McKillop Elementary School in Liberty every Sunday at 10:45 am.
