The medal stand is becoming a familiar destination for the Melissa High School UIL Computer Science team. For the second time in as many years the Cardinal coders notched a top three finish at the UIL State Academic Spring Meet at the University of Texas campus in Austin.

Christian Leithner (senior captain), Brandon Sides (junior), Spence Norwood (junior), and Austin Shipes (junior) competed in individual and team programming events. At the end of Day 1 Leithner collected his second individual state medal of the past two years,

finishing fourth.

In the team competition, the Cardinals added 295 points to their combined score, finishing with a total of 723 - good for third place in Class 3A.

"This is the result of dedication and hard work by all of our team members," said Glenn Whitten, MHS Computer Science UIL coach. "The leadership and commitment of our team captain Christian Leithtner over the last two years has been extraordinary. We will miss him next year, but we have a strong lineup of experienced upperclassmen ready to move forward and continue building this program."

This is the fourth year that Melissa has competed in UIL Computer Science competitions. Nine different Cardinals have gone to the UIL State Academic

Spring Meet in Computer Science within the past three years.
