Melissa Public Library is state accredited and supported by funding from Collin County and the City of Melissa. As such, we are open to all residents of Texas. Did you know that 20-25 percent of our patrons are from Anna and get free library cards? We have patrons from McKinney, Van Alstyne, and Allen, as well, and some of our patrons even go there. Bring your driver’s license or other state ID and enjoy our computers and materials and programs. We love donations of books, so bring those also. Come enjoy – or teach – a class. Email your librarian and give her feed-back and ideas at

With the cold weather again upon us, please bring your gently used coats, sweaters, sweatshirts, hats and gloves to the Melissa Public Library. Donations will be distributed by the Melissa Community Outreach.

Senior Gaming Club Continues: Stop by for an afternoon of fun games and friendship on the second, third and fourth Thursdays. This month we will meet on Feb. 13, 20 and 27 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Melissa Public Library. Meet new friends and enjoy the afternoon.

The Melissa Public Library has started a board game group: This is a chance for local gamers to get together over a table covered in wooden bits and cardboard, and for people curious about the modern board game hobby to learn more. A large collection of games is available from our sponsor with modern classics like Ticket to Ride and Settlers of Catan, family fun with King of Tokyo, challenging Euro-games such as Agricola and Power Grid and even war games like Combat Commander. Even if you have never heard of these titles you will have a blast learning and experiencing them for the first time. Each week, games will be set up and taught; all you need to do is come and have a good time. Whether you are just learning about board games, or a seasoned player, all will feel welcome. Take this opportunity to join us, play great games, meet people in the area, and experience the fun of this wonderful hobby. The first game day will be Feb. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Melissa Public Library with meetings the first and third Saturday of each month. If you have questions or would like to RSVP, please email

Join us on Saturday, Feb. 8 from 11 a.m. to noon and take a free armchair tour through North Texas and see the geology of our area. Richard Zartler will discuss what is under our feet and how it came to be. This is a photographic tour of exposed sites in the area and even rock samples. You won’t have to leave your seat at the Melissa Public Library, just come and enjoy a visit with an expert from the Blackland Prairie Chapter of Texas Master Naturalists.

Save the Date: Saturday, February 15 will be a fun combined activity for the Melissa Public Library and the Melissa Community Outreach. Food and fun from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. More to come!
