Erich Neuport and Lisa Mardock of the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center brought some of their "Raptor Ambassadors" to Melissa City Hall on Aug. 23. Sponsored by Friends of the Melissa Public Library, the event was a chance to educate adults and children about birds of prey. Neuport and Mardock brought out several birds, including a screech owl, a barn owl, a red-tailed hawk and a kestral falcon. Neuport explained to the rapt audience how the birds came to call the Lucas-based center home (they were injured in the wild) and what their habits, likes and dislikes are. The Friday-morning event draw more than 80 people.
