Friends of the Melissa Public Library, a 501c3 support organization, will be hosting an Appreciation Week Monday through Saturday for the Melissa Public Library. Appreciation Week will run during regular hours in celebration of National Library Week, April 14 - 20.
Over many years, it has been the desire of the Melissa community to have a library to provide cultural and educational opportunities for its citizens. Through continual growth, development and support, services have increased in providing programs for all ages to enrich the quality of life for Melissa and the surrounding area.
An invitation is extended to all to come in and browse and express appreciation with your presence during the week. The Library is bulging with opportunities to be enjoyed. Thanks to the Tocker Foundation, who provides grants for small libraries, 12 new computers are waiting to serve. Visitors can view a huge and growing collection of DVDs to be checked out for adults, families, and children. And be sure and glean from the New Books section. You will be amazed. For collectors, a Book Nook will greet you at the entrance to the Library in City Hall (unmanned and with a donation box for contributions — check it out for treasures.)
Some of the many special programs and activities will be highlighted on displays throughout the library. Interested in gardening, senior activities, finding your roots, picking up a foreign language, the 2013 photo contest, or history of Melissa? Information will be available. Collector’s Corner is changed every two months, allowing patrons to share their collections in a secure facility. Did you know the first Friday night of each month is movie night with free popcorn? Learn what is featured for upcoming entertainment as you visit.
Melissa Public Library Director Lorelei Perkins and her staff are making the Library the "In" place to go in Melissa. "I Love My Library" has been emblazoned on t-shirts and communicates a heart-felt message of appreciation for their efforts. Appreciation Week is a time to drop in and say "Thank You." Bring your ideas for new programs and expertise you might be able to share.
Friends of the Library wish to thank the Melissa City Council, city staff, library board, library staff, volunteers and patrons for providing support for the growth and development of a library that provides so much enrichment for the citizens of the community.
An open house and reception is planned in their honor for Thursday, April 18, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the rotunda of Melissa City Hall. An invitation is extended to all wishing to express their appreciation.
