The first meeting of the new school year for the Anna ISD Board of Trustees started on an upbeat note as Board President Ty Chapman and Assistant Superintendent Sue Akins recognized Teachers of the Month, Caught in the Act honorees and the Employee of the Month.

Teachers of the Month were Carol Silverglat from the high school, Luanne Malnory from the middle school, Mary Rodriguez from Bryant Elementary, Akasha Hines from Rattan Elementary and Mercedes Garcia from Early Childhood Center.

The district’s long standing Caught in the Act tradition recognizes district personnel who are doing something "above and beyond the call of duty." Honored were Delda Morrison from the high school, Jessica Potts from the middle school, Dawn Williams from Bryant Elementary, Sandra Ferguson from Rattan Elementary and Patricia Goldhammer from Early Childhood Center.

Carroll Rector was named Employee of the Month.

The board approved a Lease Purchase Agreement for a 77-passenger bus for the 2013-14 school year.

"The purchase was previously approved by the board and is included in the approved budget. All we are asking now is to approve the lease agreement," said Assistant Superintendent Thomas O’Neal. Superintendent Larry Johnson pointed out that the district now has 18 bus routes with some additional bus runs.

A water easement requested by the city of Anna was approved by the board. "There are two easements and they do not interfere with school operations," said O’Neal.

The board also approved the TEA application for classroom size waiver.

The agenda item to approve updates to policy regarding student rights and responsibilities, as well as interrogations and searches, was tabled to be discussed at a future board meeting.

The Oct. 16 scheduled board meeting was cancelled and board members will meet on that date for the required Team of Eight training.
