Jimmie Dale Walter, Sr. was called home, at the age of 71 on June 13, 2020. Jimmie, known as Jim, was born on Aug. 28, 1948 in Cuero, Texas. He was the third of eight children.
At the age of 17, Jim enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served as a jet engine mechanic in Vietnam. Upon returning home, Jim attended North Texas State University while training with the Air Force ROTC program. After graduation, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. In 1993, Maj. Walter retired from the USAF and he and his family returned to his home state of Texas and eventually moved to Melissa, Texas.
After another more than 15 years as a non-retail buyer for JC Penney, Jim retired permanently. His life and joy was spending time with his two sons and one granddaughter. Jillian Walter, his granddaughter, was the center of his life.
Jim was proceeded in death by his mother Esther, father Christian Jr., his sisters Darlene and Linda, and daughter Katherine Cay. He is survived by brother Gene, sisters Sandy, Chris, Pat and BJ. He is also survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Glenda, his two sons Jimmie, Jr. and Eddie, and his sole granddaughter, Jillian.
A chapel service and visitation will be held at Scoggins Funeral Home at 3 p.m. on June 18 and a private burial service will be held at a later date at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
