John Charles Chapman, age 80, passed away peacefully Feb. 28, 2020, at Texoma Medical Center in Denison. He was born April 6, 1939, in Van Alstyne, Texas, to Johnny Rufus Chapman and Iva Bell Chapman. He proudly graduated from Van Alstyne High School in 1957. He married the love of his life, Janette Blakely, Sept. 24, 1960, at the First Methodist Church in Van Alstyne. They had two children, Rajonia and Greg.
John worked as a self-employed machinist and supported his family with said work. John was a natural problem solver and mathematician. He loved working with his hands and spent his free time fixing things, or finding something to fix. John was an avid gun enthusiast and always had a trusty pocket knife with him. John was the greatest fan of Van Alstyne sports. It was a rare occasion to not see John in the bleachers, stands, or sidelines rooting for his beloved Panthers. Family and loyalty were not mere words to John, they were an idea that he lived by. In John’s later years, he adored spending time with his grandchildren. He took them to school, taught them to drive, and introduced them to their first lessons in firearm safety. Again, family was everything to him.
John Charles Chapman is preceded in death by his father, Johnny Rufus Chapman; his mother, Iva Bell Chapman; his sister Margaret Chapman Davis and her husband, Charles Davis. John Charles Chapman is survived in death by his wife Dorothy Janette Chapman; his daughter, Rajonia Chapman Carnley and her husband, Clifton Howard Carnley; his son Gregory Lee Chapman; his grandchildren Meredith Carnley Tillett and her husband, Ryan Scott Tillett, John Tyler Carnley and Clifton Garrett Carnley; and one great-grandchild, Rose Blakely Tillett.
