WESTMINSTER — Ronald Lee Bennett Sr., 76, of Westminster, died Sunday, April 15. He slipped away peacefully from these earthly shores after a courageous battle. He was surrounded by his wife of 56 years, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family members. He is survived by his wife Ida Settle Bennett; sons Ronald Lee Bennett Jr. and wife, Teresa of Westminster, Randle Bennett and wife, Angie of Van Alstyne, and Les Bennett Sr. and wife, Debbie of Pottsboro; daughter Lori Moon of Westminster; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren, and 1 on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents L.A. “Dick” Bennett and Thelma Bennett; brothers Bobby Gerald Bennett and John Bennett; and sisters Doris Stephens and Wanda Rheay. He is survived by three sisters whom he cherished and talked about often, Virginia Hood and husband, A.R. of Fairview, Brenda Rogers of Brenham, and Hazel Bennett of Rosenberg.

Ronald spent most of his years as a general contractor and owner of Bennett & Bennett Construction. He built many apartment complexes within the Dallas metroplex area. He was a jack of all trades. It was not unusual for him to get a call from a friend or neighbor needing some type of assistance and he was always willing to pick up and go at a moment’s notice. He loved tinkering with lawn mowers and never met a “Briggs & Stratton” engine that he couldn’t fix. He also helped in a local farming operation that he enjoyed greatly. During his latter working years he was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. To his kids and grandkids he was a virtual “Superman” whenever it came to flat tires, dead batteries, leaky roofs or a plethora of other emergencies. At best he was 30 minutes away with his tools in hand.

We will miss our “honey,” “Daddy” and “PawPaw!”
